In the US 380,000 persons turn age 50 EVERY Month - 700 per month in Jeffco (2020) By 2020 45% of Americans will be over age 50 -285,875 in Jeffco (2020)

1/3 of American households are home to one or more residents age 60 years or older -188,678 in Jeffco (2020) 19% of Americans between ages 19-65 have a physical need that affects their daily living -54,651 in Jeffco (2020)

Americans over age 50 - 75% want to live in place for as long as possible -242,000 in Jeffco (2020) Americans over age 65 - 90% over want to live in place for as long as possible -152,867 in Jeffco (2020) 80% who need long-term care live at home or in community settings, not in institutions

PROBLEM Most homes are not built to allow for us to continue safely living at home SOLUTION Homes that are accessible, comfortable and safe will allow more people to live in place… longer, healthier and happier!

Here are a few basic changes that could help a homeowner live in place independently and with the dignity they deserve…

Entering the home… There should be at least one no-step entry into the home

Stairs… -Required is 36” width and one handrail -Suggested is 42”-48” - Suggested are two handrails

Live longer at home Spend less for health care –$123 per day ($ 45,000 annual cost Colorado average for assisted living) –$21 per hour national average cost for in-home services
