3 NORTHEAST CONSORTIUM Nature of internet data (Craigslist makes up 30% of total postings) – lots of noise Output is a direct function of our input Continuous quality-control like Google tweaking its search results algorithm Educational bias – over 50% require at least a Bachelor’s, considering 33% of the labor force has a college degree Vacancy advertising methods vary across industries (e.g., construction vs. IT) Other (spamming, rural areas, job filling…) Real-Time Data

16 NORTHEAST CONSORTIUM Greening of the Economy  It is likely that there may be fewer “green” jobs and more “greening” jobs (those where green skills are added to more traditional jobs)  Not like the internet boom, but there are some emerging occupations  For now green is growing in line with general job posting activity  Similar distribution by job family as the whole economy  Green jobs may not require different skills or unique training, but more of an interest in sustainability  Higher educational requirements across the board
