HOW TO SUCCEED IN THIS COURSE: CHECK COURSE WEBSITE REGULARLY! –No excuse to be unaware of an upcoming test/quiz. –No excuse for not knowing what homework to do. –No excuse for not completing homework. –No excuse for missing material. #1 RULE: IF YOU MISS CLASS, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THE COURSE WEBSITE AND CATCH UP WITH THE CLASS!

How you are graded: 70% term mark: 2 Parts: –Formal Assessments (60%) –Informal Assessments (10%)
13
Formal Assessments (60%) Tests, In-class quizzes, assignments, labs. There are 17 overall expectations (OEs) in the course. If a quiz covers 1 of these OEs, it has a weight of 1. If a unit test covers 3 OEs, it has a weight of 3. These marks go on a “placemat,” and a line of best fit is determined for your mark.
14
Informal Assessments (10%) Online Mastery Quizzes (very easy to access through course website!) “Participation” Observations Collaborating with others to achieve group goals and responsibility. Ability to solve problems independently. Conversations Class and small group discussions about course content. Use of biological vocabulary and concept explanation. Eliciting, clarifying, and responding with questions and ideas.
