11 © 2009 Energy Conversion Devices Proprietary and Confidential Response to Concerns: Geomembrane technology has made extraordinary advances in the past 2 decades in terms of durability, quality and experience… 20-30 year warranty Exposed caps seem to provide better protection against gas escape, aquifer contamination and wasteage escape. Failures are more quickly detected and repaired. Alternate covers are always reviewed on case-by- case basis Aesthetics may be mitigated by community acceptance of a “solar park” on the landfill

13 © 2009 Energy Conversion Devices Proprietary and Confidential Project Opportunities for Flexible Solar Caps: Landfills pending final closure Landfills never formally closed but now “inactive” Sloped [heaped] Sites i.e. not flat-graded contaminated land Sites ocated very near transmission lines Sites adjacent to electricity load/demand (e.g. H2O treatment plant, trash recycling facility, military installation, etc.,) Located in state & utility territory with incentives for PV and/or with pressing RPS requirement Mining/industrial waste heaps requiring remediation by site owner Reservoirs with hardened cover structures (typically concrete, steel or aluminum) unable to tolerate weight or penetrations
