Workshop on Sustainability Action, Learning and Teaching (SALT) (Non- Residential) Dates : May 27 – 28, 2016 Venue: Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB) Scope Scope : The world is witnessing unprecedented changes, often leading to ecological, social, economic and political crises. This is happening at a time when the leaders of various countries, led by the United Nation, have committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goals during 2016-2030. The Brundtland Commission's report defines sustainable development as " development which meets the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". This definition is rooted in the ideology of triple bottom line that espouses the need to experience the harmonious co-existence of planet, people and profit or environment, equity and economy. In this context, the role of teachers and teaching assumes significant importance. Making sustainability a reality demands that teaching needs to transcend the boundaries of classrooms as we are engaged in the mission of preparing leaders for tomorrow. Sustainable development calls for creating and advancing intergenerational responsibility and hence, we have a huge mandate of engaging and encouraging our students to participate actively as responsible citizens to create a new world order that propel the emotional, sustainable, and spiritual requirements of the future and not just the physical, material, and technical demands of the present. Expected Learning Outcomes : At the end of this programme, the participants will be able to : 1.Mainstream and advance sustainability thinking and action in the curricular and co- curricular activities as teachers and learners. 2.Sow and nurture the seeds of sustainability at individual, institutional and community level. 3.Prepare and share Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) to be implemented in given time period.
