10. Black bears and Grizzly Bears are common in the park so you need to take precautions to avoid close encounters with these powerful creatures. Be alert to bear signs and places where they may be looking for food Travel in groups and make noise when hiking Store food in bear resistant containers and cook well away from campsite You need to know what to do in case you do encounter a bear. If the bear is unaware of you, detour away quietly. If the bear sees you, stop where you are. Wave your arms and talk to the bear in a calm voice. Retreat slowly, keeping the bear in sight.
