2 Static Friction The force that opposes the start of motion between two objects in contact with one another. Coefficient of Static Friction=μ s F f = μ s x F n If the applied force cannot overcome the static frictional force…the object doesn’t move

3 Kinetic Friction The force that is exerted on one surface by another when the surfaces are in motion. Coefficient of Kinetic Friction=μ k F f = μ k x F n Kinetic friction is NOT as great as static friction (easier to overcome) Once moving, a force must still be applied or the object will stop moving.
