1. Character Card Requirements You need to choose five characters from your Identity Unit book. If there aren’t five major characters in the book, you may also choose important elements like setting, plot points, or theme. Your task is to choose and construct a symbol for each character or element. The symbol must represent the important details of that character or story element. You’ll also need to list five details about each character that you choose. This list will be a part of each card that you create.

2. Text-based details to include on your cards You’ll need to write (or type) five details about each character onto each card. Details can be direct quotes or summaries of the characters’ traits. You only need to include details that you’ve encountered so far in the book.

3. What should my cards look like? Choose a symbol that connects with that character’s personality. Look at my examples from Party to get the idea. Each card should be no bigger than the palm of your hand. Make sure that your character cards include color, look professional, and show your creative thinking. Earn bonus points by designing three dimensional cards!

4. How do I start? Start by talking with your Book Club members about major characters that you’ve encountered so far. Then, brainstorm a list of details for each major character. Talk about symbols that connect with the characters. Think about tangible things that the characters care about, use, or want. Get creative and start constructing your cards! You may talk about ideas with your group, but each person will be turning in his or her own cards.
