GENERATE IDEAS TO POTENTIALLY WORK TOGETHER Issue- parts of the district have low proportions of young people going into Higher Education Raise aspirations, perceptions, and expectations

IDEAS 1 University taster days 10am -2pm Could run for 17-18 year olds initially, then 15-16, then 13-14, and progressing to include year 5 and 6 (10 & 11 years) Adapted for the age range but could include, taster lecture and seminar activities, campus tour, student union input (extra curricular activities – campus life), student input A range of schools bringing in groups by mini-bus/coach Would include input on Education courses, but maybe also from across the faculty eg nursing, midwifery, social care, and we could include overview of other options eg media, science, forensics etc

IDEAS 2 Support for Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) Support sessions for pupils to come in that are undertaking an EPQ, to learn about accessing journals, and searching databases to support them in their projects University experience taster session

IDEAS 3 Student partnership Our students to come into schools and discuss experiences in university Our students to come and work with pupils in schools, and develop relationships to encourage and demonstrate the benefits and potential of university We are currently developing partnerships with Cambridge Teaching Alliance and Suffolk Borders Teaching Alliance, and working closely with our student Union to develop volunteering opportunities

IDEAS 4 Essex LA Looked After Children Summer School? If so, maybe as part of this, they could come for a visit/taster day as part of their summer school

IDEAS Very happy to discuss your ideas and thoughts and work with you in whatever way is viable Possibility of working with teachers, CPD/Masters modules – in particular Research module, looks at action research in schools
