The messenger: A poor peasant teacher with no education There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. The messenger: A man who claimed he was God Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. (Phil. 2.6) The people said, “You aren’t even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham?” Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!” (John 8.57-58) Repent: Think and Change

The messenger: A man who taught the truths of God So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me. Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own. (John 7.16-17) Repent: Think and Change

The messenger: A man who did miracles to prove his claim I have a greater witness than John—my teachings and my miracles. The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that he sent me. (John 5.36) Repent: Think and Change

The messenger: A man who became the Suffering Servant Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. (Phil. 2.7) But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. (Is. 53.5) Repent: Think and Change

The audience: Anyone who’d listen. Mostly peasants of a backwater country, Israel. They included the poor, the religious castaways, the broken, the outsiders, the lost and messed up. The large crowd listened to him with great delight. (Mark 12.37b) Repent: Think and Change

The audience: They were scum to the leaders but priceless to Jesus. Who are you? a never ceasing spiritual being with an eternal destiny in God’s great universe. (Dallas Willard) Am I going to exist after my brain ceases to function? What if I can’t stop existing? Repent: Think and Change

Ideas What is reality? God and his kingdom “the range of God’s effective will” “Where what God wants done is done” “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.” (John 18.36) Repent: Think and Change

The good news idea from Jesus: God’s rule and activity is here, now. God is immediately accessible and available to you. You can step into the rule of God, interact with him and participate in his activity Repent: Think and Change

The good news response: Repent reconsider your strategy for life think about your thinking It is a change of thought that produces a change of life, a U-turn. Repent: Think and Change

And you? Have you reconsidered your strategy of life? Do you want to step into the reality of God and his kingdom, now? Have you made a U-turn in life, and determined to depend on Jesus and follow him. Repent: Think and Change

And ROOTS? And ROOTS? Imagine ROOTS full kingdom citizens, connected to God, working with him, and living like Jesus Repent: Think and Change
