Directions In small groups of 2-3 people you will be responding to a series of scenarios in creating your own colonies Each group must have a leader who is responsible for keeping the group on task, as well as responding for the group You will be drawing ALL of your responses Groups will be awarded points based on their responses

Scenario 1 You are on a ship crossing the Atlantic, your ship goes off course, where do you choose to settle? Draw a bird’s eye view of where you choose to settle, be sure to show all the geographical features

Scenario 2 After getting settled in your new colony, you come across native peoples. How do you interact with these peoples?

Scenario 3 You are running out of the food supply you brought over on the ship from England. What do you do?

Scenario 4 Draw your idea of the perfect village, think about what is absolutely necessary for people to survive. Show as many details as possible (REMEMBER: this is the 1600s)

Scenario 5 As your colony grows, so does your need for order. What will you do to maintain the peace? The colony elder must now meet and decide on good rules for governing your people.

Scenario 6 The neighboring colony is under attack by Native Americans, they have requested your assistance. What will you do?

Scenario 7 Your thriving colony is now encountering a labor shortage. What should you do to solve this problem?

Scenario 8 Your colony is now growing in to a city, what are the essentials that a city must have?

Discussion Questions (28 Pts) What geographical features are most important in selecting an area to colonize? What were the economic characteristics of your colony? How did the culture of the colonists influence the type of society they built? Was was slavery/indentured servitude introduced in your colony? Why? If not, how was work completed in your colony? How did you colony interact with other cultures? What were some of the consequences of those interactions?
