Welcome and Overview 2

It is the goal of the Pathway to Adventure Council to build and serve the healthiest and strongest units in the communities we serve
4
"Scouting's Journey to Excellence" is designed to set goals that encourage and reward success and measure performance and continuous improvement in key objectives in our units, districts and our council. It provides a road map, with benchmarks, to deliver the promises of the Scouting program and to operate at the most optimal level.

The Webelos Transition The successful transition of Webelos to Boy Scouts is critical to the success of Scouting. The Webelos program is designed to prepare and help boys become Boy Scouts. A successful transition program requires help from the Cub Scout unit, Boy Scout unit and the Unit Commissioners. Every Webelos deserves to be invited to join Boy Scouts! 5

The Cub Scout Pack –Develop a relationship with area Boy Scout Troop(s). –Work with the Troop(s) to arrange for Den Chiefs for you Webelos patrols. –Schedule visits with the Troop to meetings or other activities –Invite Youth and Adult Troop leaders to special Pack events. –Work with a Troop to help Webelos on activity pins, such as Craftsman, Readyman and Outdoorsman. –Plan a meaningful bridging ceremony at the Blue & Gold dinner with the help of the OA and the Troop(s). –Webelos leaders should graduate to the Troops as well, as a Committee Member or Asst. Scoutmaster. 6

The Boy Scout Troop –Encourage Scouts to become Den Chiefs to support Cub Scout Packs. –Work with the PLC to incorporate Webelos outings into your planning. –Request Webelos contact list from Packs/Unit Commissioner and include them on your Troop newsletter email list. –Troop Leadership should visit Webelos meeting’s, help with Arrow of Light requirements, discuss becoming Boy Scouts and the boy led Troop. –Prepare a Troop information packet to distribute to visiting Webelos parents. 7

Putting it into Action – Cub Scouts Start Early –When your Bears advance on to Webelos let them know that they are now beginning their path to become Boy Scouts. How can you start that connection??? –Let the Webelos know to start visiting Troops early and often during their Webelos time. Make a surprise visit to a Troop meeting – will see “actual” meeting environment –Prepare a contact list of Webelos and Webelos leaders to share with Troops so Troops can keep families informed of upcoming events, and meetings that may be of interest to Webelos. Includes the “Dropped” Scouts and Scouter List 8

Putting it into Action – Boy Scouts Make it Easy –Reach out to local Cub Scout packs and keep them informed about your Troop. –Encourage your Scouts to become Den Chiefs – very important way to show Webelos what they have to look forward to. –Make sure you schedule outdoor activities that you can invite Webelos to. Introduce Patrol Methods into Webelos campouts 9
10
Accepting the New Scouts They have earned their Arrow of Light now keep them going! –Get them started right off the bat with their Scout badge. It’s a quick hit and lets them know Tenderfoot is right around the corner. –Schedule new Scout camps early on to focus on Scouting skills and the patrol method. Spring Camporee is usually their first outdoor activity with a Troop –Get them psyched about Summer Camp! A new scout that skips his first summer camp is more likely to drop. 10
