Research and Practical Conference “Accelerators and Radiation technologies for the Futures of Russia” 28-29 September 2012, Saint-Petersburg Spectrometric Neutron Logging Technology and Equipment Based on Nanosecond Neutron Analysis Method Igor Gorshkov, APSTEC

Research and Practical Conference “Accelerators and Radiation technologies for the Futures of Russia” 28-29 September 2012, Saint-Petersburg  Description of the technology: The method of Nanosecond Neutron Analysis was first developed in Khlopin Radium Institute. Later VNIIA used this technology in production of neutron generators ING-27 based on the semiconductor detector of associated particles produced by APSTEC.  Current status: The technology is used in explosives detection devices produced by APSTEC. Method of Nanosecond Neutron Analysis (NNA) SENNA_V – non-portable device for detection of explosive substances in luggage. smartSENNA – portable device for detection of explosives inside abandoned objects.

Research and Practical Conference “Accelerators and Radiation technologies for the Futures of Russia” 28-29 September 2012, Saint-Petersburg Using NNA Technology for Detection of Hazardous Substances (SmartSENNA Device)

Research and Practical Conference “Accelerators and Radiation technologies for the Futures of Russia” 28-29 September 2012, Saint-Petersburg New Markets for NNA Technology Exploration of production induced materials deposits (there are about 50 billion tons of industrial wastes, which contain such metals as gold, silver, copper, tin, rare earth elements etc.). On-line control of minerals’ composition: coal, cement, aluminosilicate, manganesian and magnesium, fluorite, alki- earth, copper and zinc, rare earth metal and iron-ore. Quality control of the oil and oil products flow inside tubing, e.g. to determine quantity of sulphur, mass fraction of water or concentration of chloride salts. Geophysical well logging (Schlumberger company invests in R&Ds $ 1.5 mln/per day. It is possible to increase known oil reserves by 68%). Search for historical artifacts.  The technology can’t be used until a new type of associated particles detector is produced.

Research and Practical Conference “Accelerators and Radiation technologies for the Futures of Russia” 28-29 September 2012, Saint-Petersburg What is Possible for This Technology? New opportunities:  To increase sensitivity in hundreds and even thousands of times;  To detect up to 28 various chemical elements;  To produce a new type of equipment for spectrometric neutron logging/analysis.

Research and Practical Conference “Accelerators and Radiation technologies for the Futures of Russia” 28-29 September 2012, Saint-Petersburg Investor/ Strategic Partner of the Project At present negotiations are held with a possible strategic investor. Potential licensees for the technology: Schlumburge (Germany), MF-Physics (USA), Adelphi Technology (USA), Baker Hughes (USA), Halliburton (USA), NSD-Fusion (Germany), Thermo Fisher Scientific (USA), VNIIA(Moscow, Russia).

Project Team APSTEC was founded in 2003. Main sphere of activity is development of technologies and equipment to detect hazardous substances. Key-personnel includes 16 persons, among them 6 Ph.Ds. Average age is 34. APSTEC is the finalist of the international competition “Global Security Challenge” (Singapore /London, 2009). One of the technologies developed by APSTEC received a special commendation from NATO Science Committee (NATO “Science for Peace and Security” Programme) as the most promising approach with high commercial and export potential. At present it receives a financial support in the framework of the international STANDEX Programme. 28-29 September 2012, Saint-Petersburg Research and Practical Conference “Accelerators and Radiation technologies for the Futures of Russia”
