AN INCOMPLETE STUDY GUIDE FOR ADOBE PREMIERE’S CERTIFICATION TEST
2
Author’s Notes I only have access to so much data to pull a guide from, so this study guide is as complete as I can make it but still qualifiedly incomplete in reality. All answers are down below in the notes section of each slide. For best results, apply directly to flash cards.
3
Project Reference: 001 How do you insert a clip from the source monitor into your sequence without dragging it in? In your study project folder, find Project 001. Your file may not open with a file in the Source Monitor. Luckily there is only one file in your bin. Double-click it to put it up in the Source Monitor. If you’ve this question right you’ll have only imported the word “Starbucks” into your sequence.)
4
Project Reference: 002 What is the first step in order to lift or extract frames from a sequence in a specific area? In Project 002, please determine where the word “grandmother” is. Mark in and out in your sequence to contain the entire word, then use Lift and Extract to practice removing the section from your sequence.
5
What does lifting do to your marked sequence section? What does extracting do to your marked sequence section?
6
Project Reference: 003 How do you add keyframes to a clip at the position of the playhead?
7
Project Reference: 003 In Project 003, use keyframes on Audio 1 to have the volume dip and spike (lower and raise) as Matt screams from being slapped. (The clip must be selected before the keyframe can be placed)
8
Project Reference: 004 What is the easiest way to increase the volume of an audio clip when you’ve expanded the track so you can see it’s waveform? An expanded track looks like Audio 1 in the below example, while Video 1 is not expanded.
9
Project Reference: 005 Some questions will ask you to combine individual skills. Such as: Without dragging, add the audio file to the sequence, and then render the audio. On my first pass through this test, I missed the phrase “Without dragging”. Answers are in the notes at the bottom.
10
Understanding Rendering This is called the Work Area. You set the work area of your video by adjusting the orange headers on either side. If you have a section of your video that lags because of effects, you use the work area to render that section so it plays smoothly. This color indicator underneath the work area indicates which areas are not rendered, which could leave them laggy when you work with them.
11
To render specific areas: These are your menu options for rendering. Render Effects is for special effects and transitions (may omit things without any special things done to them) Render Entire is for every frame of footage inside the area Render audio only renders Audio. (Duh.)
12
Project Reference: 006 How do you set a specific transition to be the default transition?
13
Project Reference: 006 For this question, let’s set Roll Away from the Page Peel folder to be our default transition. DO NOT use right-click as it may not work on the test. Use the magic little menu in the corner.
14
Project Reference: 007 Effect Controls Some questions will ask you to modify existing effects on clips. One popular one is Warp Stabilizer. Change the Warp Stabilizer effect on ClipA.mp4 in Sequence 2 so that it only stabilizes the clip. How do we modify existing effects?
15
Which method should you use to set the size and shape of a text box before entering the text? 1. Rolling Text 2. Point Text 3. Path Text 4. Paragraph Text
16
Project Reference: 006 (Yes, 006) Sometimes you’ll need to make a title. In the current project, create a default still title named Ending. Type Credits in the title. Do this right now in Project 006.
18
1) Click this 2) Type that 3) Close window
19
Project Reference: 008 And sometimes, those title cards need to be fancier, using rolls, or crawls. Change the attributes of the title Credits so that it crawls left. Project 008 has been set up for this.

22
Make sure you know how to import files!
23
Project Reference: 006 In Project 006, Import the file Matt – Eat a Sandwich.mp4” from the Assets folder. In Project 006, Import the entire Assets folder.
24
Importing a whole folder:
25
Digital footage is otherwise knows as tapeless media. To import tapeless media, which is a big old stupidly phrased question for the obvious process of regular importing that we would do, there are two ways. What are they?
26
Project Reference: 009 Manually setting In and Out points in the Project Panel: Remember that timecode is HOURS:MINUTES:SECONDS:FRAMES. 00:00:00:00
27
Project Reference: 009 In Project 009, manually set an In and Out point on the file “Matt – Das Uberslap.mp4” through the PROJECT PANEL. In point at: 00;00;00;16 Out point at: 00;00;00;28
28
The meanest question on the test is actually one of the easiest, it’s just designed to make you cry by looking intimidating. Trim the clip already inserted into the source monitor by setting an In Point at 35:00 seconds, and an Out Point at 1:05:00 seconds. Insert the trimmed clip into the sequence Wedding at the current position of the CTI in the Timeline panel.

31
by setting an In Point at 35:00 seconds, and an Out Point at 1:05:00 seconds. Set time manually to 00:00:35:00, Mark In Button, Set time to 00:01:05:00, Mark Out Button
32
Insert the trimmed clip into the sequence Wedding at the current position of the CTI in the Timeline panel. It’s asking you to hit the insert button and that’s it, you’re done.
33
Project Reference: 010 Trim the clip “Matt – Das Uberslap.mp4” already inserted into the source monitor (THOUGH YOU MAY HAVE TO GET IT THERE YOURSELF IN THE DEMO) by setting an In Point at 00;00;00;16 frames, and an Out Point at 00;00;00;28 frames. Insert the trimmed clip into the sequence “Just the Slap” at the current position of the CTI in the Timeline panel.
34
Which option would be considered the least important part of an animation project? 1. Storyboarding skills 2. Animation skills 3. Artistic skills 4. Acting Skills
35
What are three features of the project panel that are used for organization and media asset access? Automatic Asset Updates Color encoding Scaling the project panel Searching for files Scrubbing thumbnails directly
36
Which is NOT a process of script-to-screen workflow? 1. Logging good and bad takes 2. Recording timecode to create an edit list 3. Creating a shot list 4. Logging break times 5. Capturing post-production direction
37
When creating a documentary, what is not an appropriate source for footage? B-Roll Similar YouTube Documentaries Interviews Photos Re-enactments
39
What are the two colors used for chroma-keying?
40
What are the three most important things to consider with crawling text?
41
What is the principle in shooting video that shows where a subject is going rather than where they have been?
43
The tool that allows a crew to slide a camera side to side along a track is called what?
45
If you don’t know this…
48
What software can be used to collaborate with clients and peers while script writing?
49
Some questions, as has been noted before, ask profoundly easy things in incredibly complex ways. Change the display style of the video 1 track so that it only shows the name. You mean like Audio 1? What’s different between these two? You tell me.
50
Create a new project formatted to capture DV footage. Name it Documentary1.
51
Project Reference: Project 11 Create a new project in the Project File folder (It should co-habitate with all the other Project Files) and set it to capture HDV footage. Name this Project 011. Accept all other default settings.
53
Add one video track and one audio track to the sequence named OVERLAY.
54
Project Reference: 005 In Project 005, add one video track and two audio tracks to the sequence.
55
Save the current workspace as BLAHBLAH
56
Project Reference: 012 In Project 012, save the current workspace as “Slapsgiving”
57
Maximize the Source Monitor frame.
58
Export the sequence as a Final Cut Pro XML file and save it to the desktop named MYMOVIE. Breathe deep, here we go…
60
Note: This save window WILL look different. Be smart when finding the desktop. DON’T FORGET TO NAME IT CORRECTLY!
61
Project Reference: 012 Export the sequence “Just the Slap” as a Final Cut Pro XML file and place it in the OUTPUTS folder.
64
Accept all other default settings, so just hit Export.
65
Export all of sequence1 as an F4V file. Accept all other default settings. Use Project 010. Export the sequence named “The whole clip” as an F4V file. Place it in the Outputs folder and name it “010” Unlike the test question, I added an extra step to rename it and put it in a specific folder.
66
Export only the video within the work area of the sequence Wedding Breakfast. Use MPEG4 and accept all other default settings.
69
UNCHECK THIS
70
Project Reference: 007 In Project 007, export only the video from the work area of the sequence as an MPEG4 video. Export this file directly into the OUTPUTS folder named 007.
