The focus of this action research is trying to discover a way to decrease the number of written referrals in the 3 rd grade.

High number of written referrals from the 3 rd grade classes

Age group consist of 8-9 year olds Low income based families Low academic levels Health Conditions

What are some predetermine conditions that influences behavior? Are teacher’s teaching styles keeping the students engaged/interested in the lessons? Do students have plenty of opportunities to act out negative activity?

This is in my locus of control by the following: Students are in my class I am on the leadership team I help with discipline at the school

Will implement a Positive Behavior Intervention Plan in the 3 rd grade classroom.

The guidelines for the intervention plan: Encourage positive behavior with positive/fun incentives. Teacher will teach positive lessons in class. Discipline problems will go through discipline plan

Teacher will teach PBIS Lessons in class These lessons will help teach the following: Respect towards others Manners Positive behavior

The students that display positive behavior will: Recognition on the positive behavior hall of fame Character Count student of the week and Month Free Concession Free admission to monthly school dance Free conduct field trip Caught being good/school money

The intervention Plan for negative behavior students. Talk to the students and encourage incentives Take away privileges Counseling session with counselor Counseling session with schools psychologist Parent conference Written referral to office

Leadership Team members- helped construct the PBIS plan. Teachers in the 3 rd grade(including myself) will implement the PBIS plan. School Counselor- will counsel any student that are displaying continuous negative behavior. School Psychologist- will conduct a more detailed evaluation of the student Parents- will help encourage and give information about home life.

All the teachers not receiving of the plan Students of that age group Health concerns/predetermine conditions

All data collected will only be used for research only No one will be physically or emotionally harm while participating in the research All participants will participate in the research at their own free will.

The timeline of the Plan will be a total of 9 weeks The PBIS lessons will be implemented in every week All parts of the PBIS will be continuous throughout the 9 weeks.
