1 THE SADC GENDER PROTOCOL SUMMIT 2014 Photojournalism Kendy Mangra 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

2 Started in January 2013-The aim of this TV-show is to showcase inner beauty through a change in the outer look. People commit suicide everyday and in every country. We could easily list the reasons, they appear to be the same, which are either lack of self love and a very weak self- esteem As a matter of fact we decided to set up a tv-show based on love and esteem, how to build these skills or values through so called "beauty" However we have to keep in mind that showing people with a past history of difficult lifestyle might project a sensitive image or a sensitive case open to the public. To our great this programme has become a success! People this time are inspired to positively change! We can even call it a "redemption"!

3 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA How : the amount of phone calls received to help those in needs of changing looks. Why: Beauty from inside was shown in the physical trait. The women who couldn't look at themselves in a mirror can now do so with an amazing impact in their day to day life. In the sense that they have developed self-confidence in their power to show themselves to the society. I am sincerely convinced that I have a responsibility to impact for a change not only in Mauritius but in other countries. Mauritius is simply a tiny island lost in the Indian ocean, yet few souls have been enlightened with this tv- show. This drop in the ocean could become a wave in a bigger country!

4 In 2013 we met around 20 women, these women are now standing on their own feet. They are considered as ‘’survivors’’ in society and people know them. These heroines are now an example for others. In December we carried out a survey to find out the after effects of the project and positive results have been concluded. 2014 We renewed the project with more professionals. A Fashion Agency is interested to give these survivors a job and want to give them another chance in life. We are working with NGOs involved in the fight against alcohol and drug addiction. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA
