Objectives At the end of this period the learner will: Understand more fully the potential impact and importance of networking among international FM training programs. Identify some key differences between networking and other forms of affiliation. Identify several tools and types of collaboration that can be used among international FM programs. Understand the goals, objectives, and current activities of the Hope Family Medicine network.

“network?” Definitions:...an interconnected system of things or people....a communication system consisting of a group of broadcasting stations that all transmit the same programs....to communicate with and within a group.

History (Noncompetitive) programs, projects, plans... A desire to understand and respect the differences in every setting......BUT ALSO to stop reinventing the wheel......introduce appropriate standardization and oversight into the process,...AND realize that affiliations with US entities serve a different purpose.

important statements Vision Statement: “Family Medicine educators networking to improve health and post-graduate training in international training programs.” Purpose Statement: “By purposefully connecting, the ‘Hope Family Medicine Network’ will assist members as they train healthcare professionals and raise the quality of healthcare in their countries of service.”

Four broad goals 3. HFMNet will advocate for: 3. Overseas medical education as a methodology for recruitment of faculty and leadership 4. Recognition and development of primary care in member countries. 5. The work of member programs in their country of service as well as the U.S.

Definition A network of faith-based international Family Medicine training programs with similar goals and organizational cultures. Divided into two groups: Core - six main Hope programs Cloud - other ‘affiliated’ sites, projects, or programs

benefits of the network Access to IHI and Hope lecture databases. Shared faculty from other member programs. Resident exchange with other member programs. HPI (US) will try to recruit training personnel for program if desired. HPI (US) will assist with fundraising for program if desired. Joint IHI-signed graduation certificate Program is advertised on HPI and/or FM network website if desired. Program allowed to use www.hoperesidents.com or www.hopefmnetwork.com intranet if desired.www.hoperesidents.comwww.hopefmnetwork.com Joint lectures and distance learning for program’s residents Fellowship and relationship among program leadership via conference calls and meetings FMEI conference and/or consultation available, member training programs are given priority in scheduling IHI and affiliated residents strongly encouraged to rotate at member program sites Branding and unity with Hope name, logo, etc. if desired.
