8. Endorsements Middle grade endorsements (grades 6-8) –Broad based –Typically 18 hours in subject –Exceptions: math/ESL (CI/DEIL) –State needs: math, science, foreign language, ESL, bilingual

9. Science/Social Science Grades 9-12 Requires 32 hours of coursework, 12 hours in one of the designations below, and coursework in at least two other designations. Will be tested on all designations. Science: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Science, Physics (MG=General Science or Biological and/or Physical Science) Social Science: History, Psychology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology -- Your designation is History. (MG = Social Science) Can teach ALL social sciences or sciences at introductory level Must be endorsed in subsequent designation to teach AP or honors courses

New ISBE Rule Effective February 1, 2012 –Social Science and Science endorsements To be endorsed in a subsequent designation in the field you must have completed 12 hours of coursework in the subject area of the designation and pass the applicable content-area test (AP/Honors) Social Science (History, Psychology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology) Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Science, Physics)
