Welcome to class! March 4, 2014 You will need your..  Table folder  Science binder  Notes You will have 5 minutes to get settled in before we start class Please do not touch anything until I give you permission to do so

Density

Sink or float? For this activity you will work in groups of 4 You will be given 10 objects. You need to create 5 pairs For each pair you need to write down 3 observations and predict which one will sink and which one will float, then write your results You will be given 15 minutes for this activity

But first, Some important vocab Matter: anything that has atoms, mass, and takes up space Mass: A measurement of the amount of matter (or stuff) in an object or liquid Volume: A measurement of how much physical space an object or liquid takes up.

Which one is more dense? Which square is more dense?

Which one is more dense? Now which one is more dense?

What is density? Density is a comparison of how much matter there is in a certain amount of space. To find the density of an object, we use a simple formula D=m/v

What is density? Don’t forget our units! Mass= grams (g) Volume= cm 3 or mL Density= g/ cm 3 or g/mL Hint: 1 cm 3 = 1 mL Mass Density Volume x

How do we find volume? To find the volume of a regular object you take the Length x width x height Length Height Width
