Road Facts Total Network of 99,000 km network is 2.5 times the European average in terms of length per head of population national road network of 5,500 km regional & local road network of 93,500 km Traffic National roads which comprise less than 6% of the network carry 45% of all traffic Regional roads which comprise about 13% of the network carry 30% of all traffic

Capital Plan & National Roads 2016-2022 Approximately €730 million for new national roads projects Majority of funding to be made available for last three years of the plan Roads PPPs are not contemplated in the Plan Shovel ready schemes cannot be progressed in the short term. 2019 will see a ramp up of schemes, most likely procured as DB schemes.

Conclusion Investment aims to achieve Steady State by 2020 Funding constraints in early years –PT - €348m in 2016 rising to €845m in 2022 –Roads - €591m in 2016 rising to €1.08bn in 2022 Expanded time horizon enables progress to be made on significant new projects to support economic growth and contribute to our climate mitigation targets
