1 DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BESMM 3 & 4
NIQS BESMM 4 TRAINING WORKSHOP 6-7th APRIL, 2016

2 COMPARISON of measurement documents
BESMM3 & CESMM3 CESMM4 & BESMM 4 Adopted the format of SMM7 of 9 columns Work sections retained same identity in both building and Civil/Industrial Engineering eg D- Groundwork, E- Concrete work Integration of NRM 2 and CESMM 4 but retained the 9 columns in BESMM 3 Work sections identified separately for both building/civil, industrial engineering e.g 2A-2Z; 2AA-2AB; 2F-2H concrete Adopts CESMM4 for civil/industrial engineering works

3 Metalwork/timber G-Metalwork/Timberwork
2N-Structural metalwork/miscellaneous Metalwork Miscellaneous metalwork, scaffolding structural metalwork, timber, all lumped together under the above Extensive integration of CESMM 4 (current) Structural metalwork/ miscellaneous metalwork together Fabrication as members (main Bridges, subsidiary and framing) Bridge bearing materials-Elastometric and propriety added. Bridge bearing 6 items differentiated.

4 BESMM 3: D75- PILES AND PILING ANCILLARIES
BESMM 4: 2R- PILES Measurement to Rule D30 (building work section) Piles and its ancillaries lumped together Rearranged; Piles (2R)now separated from their ancillaries (2S) Nominal cross sectional area given in 8 stages Isolated piles Mass/m given in 8 stages Interlocking steel piles section modulus given in 8 stages Stone Columns provided (to be measured) and in 8 stages

5 Roads and pavings BESMM 3 Q45 BESMM 4 2T 6 Classifications
Sub-base, flexible road bases & surfacing (depth to be stated….not given) 9 Classifications Un-bound sub-base- further classified into 4 types; depth given in 8 stages Cement and other hydraulically bound pavement classified into 8 stages Cement bound granular mixture, fly as bound mixture, etc. depth given in 8 stages

6 Road and Pavings (Cont’d)
BESMM 4 2T BESMM 3 Q45 Concrete pavements further classified into 10 types; unreinforced concrete surface slabs, jointed reinforced, continuously reinforced. Depth/thickness groupings given in 8 stages Mass of bar reinforcement taken at 7.85t/m3 and nominal sizes given in 8 stages (6mm-32mm diameter) Concrete pavements-carriage way slabs. Depth, thickness to be stated. Nominal mass, to be stated Mass of bar reinforcement taken at 7.85t/m3 (nominal size of members no given

7 Road and Pavings (Cont’d)
BESMM 3 Q45 BESMM 4 2T Waterproof membranes below concrete pavement Item description to state the gauge and extent of laps. Joints in concrete pavements; depth of joints to be stated in mm (not stated) Separation and waterproof membranes Item description to state their materials and thickness. Joints in concrete pavements; depth in groups given in 8 stages.

8 Road and Pavings (Cont’d)
BESMM 3 Q45 BESMM 4 2T Kerbs, Channels and edging classified into 6 items Ancillaries, surface markings-5 items noticed including non reflective studs and reflective studs Kerbs, Channels, edgings, footways and paved areas classified into 10 items with addition of item 7-10 Ancillaries; surface markings-6 items including Non reflective road studs; reflective road studs and Raised rib

9 Railway Track Construction
X 40 BESMM 3 2U BESMM4 Track bases/foundation; 5 items Taking up sundries; 6 items Track/foundations; 8 items noticed additional 3 items included (Ballast cleaning; tampering and Pneumatic ballast Taking up sundries: 7 items noticed- additional item is Eutectic strip.

10 Railway Track Construction (Cont’d)
X 40 BESMM 3 2U BESMM4 Lifting, packing and slewing and work to existing track; 6 items evolved. Additional items include -existing rail turning and fixing. -re-railing -stressing rail Lifting packing and slewing; 5 items

11 Railway Track Construction (Cont’d)
X 40 BESMM 3 2U BESMM4 Additional information Plane tract Plane track with conductor Plane track with turnout Plane track with conductor rail and Buffer stops

12 Piling ancillaries D 75 BESMM 3 2S BESMM 4
Group together. Measured work items pre-boring, extensions, cutting off tops, etc. including disposal, delays Each of the measured work has 7 or 8 items of piles ancillaries to be measured. These exclude disposal and delays. Disposal is deemed to be included with the piling works.

13 Piling ancillaries D 75 BESMM 3 2S BESMM 4
The cross sectional area, mass, sectional modulus etc. were not given or specify Pile test did not provide for type of test to be done The cross sectional area, mass, sectional modulus etc. their range were given or specify Pile test provide 5 types of test to be carried

14 Thank you
