US and Great Britain want to try and keep European countries from coming back into the Western Hemisphere and getting new colonies Monroe Doctrine

Issued by US in 1823 Told European countries to stay out of Latin and South America and the US would stay out of European affairs. Had British political and military support British supported it hoping to pick up pieces in Latin + South America (Get more colonies)
