In 1996, countries at the World Food Summit agreed that: ‘Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy lifestyle.’

An Ecological Footprint is a measure of how much productive land and water they require to produce all the resources they consume and to absorb all the waste they generate, using prevailing technology. It is measured in global hectares.

Average Australian has ecological footprint of 7.7 hectares or 4.2 planets. Fair resource use is 1.8 ha per person. Food is approx. 48% of our footprint.
