History Curriculum The fieldwork activity will address a variety of history curriculum requirements The extension of settlement, including the effects of contact (intended and unintended) between European settlers in Australia and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (ACDSEH020).(ACDSEH020) The short and long-term impacts of the movement of peoples during this period (ACDSEH085).(ACDSEH085) Use chronological sequencing to demonstrate the relationship between events and developments in different periods and places (ACHHS164).(ACHHS164) Identify and select different kinds of questions about the past to inform historical inquiry (ACHHS166).historical inquiry(ACHHS166) Identify and analyse the perspectives of people from the past (ACHHS172).(ACHHS172)

Integrated Curriculum The fieldwork will comprise of curriculum links to the following subjects: English Geography Civics and Citizenship Mathematics

Cross-Curriculum Priorities Aboriginal identity and understanding is a priority across all subject areas in the Australian Curriculum Students are expected to deepen their knowledge of Indigenous Australians by engaging with the content

Relevance The fieldwork satisfies the History Standards of the Australian Curriculum It is important to know about Australia’s long history Attitudes towards Indigenous culture is found within the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians

Context Students will watch the movie ‘Yolngu Boy’ They will be able to reflect on this and formulate any questions they may have

Proposed Itinerary Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre · 8:00 am – staff briefing Whole Group · 8.45 am – meet at the bus and mark rolls · 8.50 am – leave Berwick · 9.30-9.40 am – arrive at Museum · 9.45-9.55 – register and briefing · Split into 2 classes of 25 (A and B) Class A · 10:00-11:00 – Shared History (staff led) · 11:00-11:25 – Morning tea and toilet break · 11:30-12:00 – Melbourne Story (Self guided) · 12:00-12:30 – First Peoples (Self guided)
