Most Common Infractions Weight, Weight, Weight! CAP weight standards are AF standards plus 10% 10% is 10% There is no body fat equivalent for CAP Members who do not meet the standards must NOT wear AF style uniforms Hair and Grooming No waivers for beards Jewelry Extremely critical to CAP relationship with the Air Force CAPM 39-1, Attachments 1 & 2 (weight & grooming standards) What happens if we do not follow the regulations? We lose the privilege of wearing the Air Force style uniform. In the past, the AF has changed the colors of our uniform to make sure we did not look even close to their uniform. We have worked hard to get back into their good graces. Lets patrol ourselves and others in CAP so we do not lose the privilege again.

Service Dress Uniforms
Fit is especially important Service Coat Fit easily over chest and shoulders Bottom edge extends 3 to 3 ½ inches below top of thigh Should not pull or bunch in back above waist Sleeves end ¼ inch from heel of thumb Collar shows at least ¼ to ½ inch above coat collar and center back

Uniform Fit Trousers/Slacks Skirts
Worn at natural waist with no bunching at waist or sagging in seat Horizontal wrinkles at waist, tightness in crotch and bulging in side pockets indicate too small Rest on front of shoe or boot with slight break in crease Back edge approximately 7/8 inch longer than front Skirts Hang naturally over hips Horizontal wrinkles at waist or bulging in side pockets indicate too small No shorter than top of kneecap nor longer than bottom of kneecap

Grade insignia No metal grade for senior members Members without grade are the only members authorized to wear the CAP cutouts. Seniors wear US Cutouts on Service Coat. Cadets wear their grade on their service coat.

Battle Dress Uniform Only woodland green authorized
Must meet weight and grooming standards 1/8 inch of blue shows around embroidered devices Grade insignia worn on both sides and on cover for both seniors and cadets. Reverse American Flag When folded up, sleeve material must touch or come with 1” of forearm when bent at 90-degree angle. Reverse American Flag is worn on right should, ½” below sleeve seam, centered. Cover – cadet enlisted members and cadets without grade do not wear any device on the BDU hat. Hat will not be rolled or crushed. Undershirt is either black or brown, not tan. Either V-neck, U-neck, crew neck or athletic style without pockets. Gortex outergarment must be worn with an ultramarine blue embroidered device on the front tab. Cadet and senior member officers will wear the device with embroidered grade insignia. Cadet and senior member NCOs will wear the device with the embroidered CAP and metal grade insignia. Blouse the trousers in the boots.

Ten Tips for Looking Good
Keep track of your insignia. Store it in a special place at home. Prepare your uniform the night before you wear it. Trim loose strings from buttonholes, pockets, and belt loops. Use spray starch when ironing (check the manufacturer’s tag first). Obtain “enforcers” or place cardboard behind your ribbons. Look at yourself in a full-length mirror to check your appearance. Keep a small handkerchief with you for dusting your shoes and brass. Check your gig-line whenever you exit a car or visit the restroom. Avoid leaning against anything while in uniform. Ask your buddy to tell you if they notice anything incorrect about your uniform.

Aviator Shirt Aviator shirt – Senior Members and Cadets 18 and over
Worn with gray epaulets Gray nametag CAP aviation badge, one additional CAP badge CAP ribbons only No military devices or ribbons Long sleeves = tie (blue AF or blue CAP) Outergarments, leather jacket Cadets over the age of 18 are now authorized to wear the aviator shirt and gray slacks combination. The blue cadet nametag and grade insignia is worn in the same manner worn on the Air Force light blue shirt. Outergarments include the leather jacket, appropriate civilian outerwear, and the AF cardigan sweater. The senior gray epaulet is now available in two sizes. A smaller female version and a standard one size fits all version. Females may wear either version.

Uniform Phase Out Dates
January 2012 Update The National Executive Committee approved a proposal to phase out the Corporate Service uniform, including the Corporate service coat, white aviator shirt and AF blue slacks combination, black windbreaker, black overcoat and black police-style sweaters. The phase out date for these uniform combinations was 1 January

Most common errors Men and male cadets
Crew neck t-shirts w/open blues shirt Hair Length – sideburns flared or long Beard or goatee with blues uniform Sunglasses while standing in formation Polo shirt not tucked in No cover while outside Having pens, glasses, etc. in polo pocket Missing or improperly placed insignia on outerwear White crew neck t-shirts authorized only with closed collar service and dress uniforms only. Covers required outside with BDU and air force style uniforms. No reflective sunglasses. No eyeglasses or sunglasses worn around the neck. Another error – promoting a cadet to officer, without having the proper epaulets. Either wait to promote and borrow some for the picture. Clothing must be zipped, snapped or buttoned. Women may have their polo shirt untucked but must not fall below mid-hips.

Earrings – one pair; no hoops – small diamond, pearl or stud; must match Fingernail polish – conservative color No floppy bow tie with long sleeve aviator shirt These regulations are also in place when the member is wearing civilian attire and attending a CAP activity, whether on a military installation or not.

Missing name plate/tape (or on wrong side) Tape should not say US Civil Air Patrol No insignia/grade on BDU Gortex jacket No cover when outdoors CAP cutouts on corporate senior uniform Wearing AF uniform when not within weight standard Incorrect outerwear with blues/BDUs We are all responsible for wearing our uniforms correctly. If you see something wrong, please let the person know who is out of regulation. We do not want to lose the privilege of wearing the Air Force style uniform!

Older Uniforms Klitzman Composite and Encampments – Do We Look Like The Official Auxiliary of the United Air Force? These are pictures scanned out of the history of the old Klitzman, now Madison, squadron from the eighties. Notice the seniors could not wear the AF BDUs, nor the cadets at encampment. In fact, notice what the cadets marched in – t shirts and baseball caps! They still wore the boots though. No one would ever know looking at these pictures, that we were a part of the official auxiliary of the United Air Force.

Glitter, red, blue, back, or any fingernail polish other than colors which are considered ‘conservative’ are not allowed while in uniform. The same goes for makeup. Cosmetics must be conservative and in good taste. Fingernail polish should be a single color.
