1 Welcome eager young artists! Ms. Edelman Saturday, June 11, 2016  DO NOW: take out your notebook and a pen. Review your notes from yesterday.

2 What are TYPE tools?  Set text horizontally or vertically on the canvas.  Shortcut: T Horizontal type tool Vertical type tool

3 How does text work with layers?  Click on the canvas with the text tool and Photoshop will automatically create a new layer with a T icon.  Whatever you type out will be the name of that layer.

4 How do I style text?  The CHARACTER palette allows you to change the font face, size, etc.  A character is a single symbol of an alphabet. This is professional graphic design terminology.

5 How do I access the character palette?  WINDOW menu  CHARACTER

6 What is a LAYER STYLE?  A LAYER STYLE is a special effect that can be applied by layer.  You can add a layer style to any layer in Photoshop (image or type). Add layer style

7 How do I use layer styles?  Choose a style from the popup menu.  Each style has its own options box.  Each style will be listed under the layer applied to.  Styles can be hidden or deleted.  Can only be used on a transparent layer.

10 EREXCISE: 1. Create a new document: 8x10”, RGB, 72 dpi 2. Save as: yourname_text effects.psd 3. Make at least 3 layers: horizontal text vertical text art 4. Apply different layer effects to all including drop shadow and bevel & emboss. 5. Upload your file by end of class today.
