2. Hajar mountains The picturesque terrain is backed by the barren slopes of the Hajar mountains, which border Gulf of Oman and the open waters of the Indian Ocean, covering over 90 kilometres of Fujairah’s East Coast.

3. Mountaineering The Hajar mountains are the major attraction for mountaineering enthusiasts. Its diverse ravines and landscapes offer breathtaking views and beautiful routes all year round.

4. Sheikh Zayed Mosque Sheikh Zayed Mosque is located in the city center against the backdrop of the Hajjar mountains. Said to be the size of three football fields and festooned with six minarets, the white granite and marble edifice can accommodate up to 28, 000 worshippers.

5. Fujairah Fort Fujairah Fort, the oldest fort in the United Arab Emirates which construction dates back to the 16 th century, was rebuilt in 1670 and served as defence point and home for the ruling family. It was recently renovated and now is open to visitors.

6. Al Hayl Fort Al Hayl Fort also known as Al Hayl Castle was built in the 17 th century and served as a residence for the ruling family. Magnificent scenery opens up from its watchtower overlooking Hajar mountains and nearby village.

7. Al Bithnah Fort Al Bithnah Fort is located 12 kilometres away from Fujairah city in the village of Bithnah and is thought to be built in the 18 th century. The Fort overlooking the Ham wadi and surrounded by palm orchards has served as a defense point during the Wahabi incursions.

8. Fujairah has a rich cultural and archaeological heritage. Al Bidyah, the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates, the Fujairah Fort dating back to 16 th century as well as Al Bithnah and Al Hayl Forts surrounded by the scenic views of the mountains, are amongst the main attractions for visitors.

9. Yowla is a traditional type of music and dance performed during celebrations. Men re-enact fights or successful hunting expeditions symbolically using the sticks. The United Arab Emirates is part of the Arab Khaliji musical tradition.

10. Fujairah’s location is perfect for marine based activities. Visitors to the Emirate enjoy fishing and diving trips, many of them organized by Fujairah International Marine Club.

11. Fujairah proudly hosts traditional crafts and businesses and preserves its heritage. Folkloric artefacts, antiquities and archeological finds are showcased in the Fujairah Museum, the oldest exhibit dating back to 2500 years B.C.

12. Dibba is located one hour away from the city and residents of Fujairah often make it a day trip destination. It is also well known amongst diving and snorkeling fans.

13. Fujairah is known for Bull Butting which attracts visitors from all the Emirates. Bulls use their strength to push against one another (head to head). The fight may only take a few minutes with the strongest declared the winner.
