1 Save the Environment Techniques (STE Techniques) Things you can do, weekly, to help your community and the environment.

2 Save the Environment Technique #1 (STE #1)  Fill up a pitcher/water bottle of bottled or tap water to save energy or to use less water while brushing your teeth.  Pick up litter that isn’t yours.  When you see someone wasting water on their lawn, let them know.

3 STE #1 Journal For your STE technique, you must journal (on your own paper) about what you did this week to help save the environment. The more you write, the more points you will receive. If you did not do the STE technique, write about something you DID do to help the environment. 1.This week, did you make an effort to try the STE technique? Why or why not? 2.Do you think that this technique would be easy to adapt into your daily routine? Why or why not? 3.Why is it important to try something new that will help to minimize the CO2 that we put into the atmosphere? 4.Did you, as one person, make a difference this week? Why or why not?

4 Save the Environment Technique #2 (STE #2)  Use baking soda and apple cider vinegar as cleaner.  Unplug your air fresheners and bake cookies or a cake instead.  Replace candles with soy candles.

5 STE #2 Journal For your STE technique, you must journal (on your own paper) about what you did this week to help save the environment. The more you write, the more points you will get. If you did not do the STE technique, write about something you did do to help the environment. 1.This week, did you make an effort to try the STE technique? Why or why not? 2.Do you think that this technique would be easy to adapt into your daily routine? Why or why not? 3.Why is it important to minimize the amount of chemicals that we put into our homes and environment? 4.Did you, as one person, make a difference this week? Why or why not?

6 Save the Environment Technique #3 (STE #3) o Complete an online carbon footprint calculator. http://calc.zerofootprint.net/ http://www.earthday.org/footprint- calculator AND o Turn your water heater to 120 degrees. OR o Turn your heat down to 68 and keep it there. OR o Turn your air to 78 and keep it there.

7 STE #3 Journal For your STE technique, you must journal (on your own paper) about what you did this week to help save the environment. The more you write, the more points you will get. If you did not do the STE technique, write about something you did do to help the environment. 1.This week, did you make an effort to try the STE technique? Why or why not? What was your carbon footprint? Was this a high number or not? 2.Do you think that this technique would be easy to adapt into your daily routine? Why or why not? 3.Did the documentaries we’ve watched convince you that we need to fix this problem? Why or why not? 4.Did you, as one person, make a difference this week? Why or why not?

8 STE #4  Buy a plant to absorb harmful chemicals. OR  Find a quote from Joanna Macy about the environment and talk about what it means.

9 STE #4 Journal  This week, did you make an effort to try the STE technique? Why or why not? What was the quote you picked by Macy? Why did you choose it? How does it affect you?  Did this technique make you think about your impact on the environment? Why or why not?  What have you learned so far that has affected you the most? Why? What are you going to do about it?  Did you, as one person, make a difference this week? Why or why not?
