4 A set of domestic programs passed under Lyndon Johnson’s administration. Intended to eliminate poverty and reduce injustice in society. Cost of Vietnam War reduced funding. Many Americans remain in poverty today

5 Great Society Programs Included  Civil Rights Act of 1964  Voting Rights Act of 1965  Affirmative Action  War on Poverty  Aid to cities – HUD cabinet position created to fund slum clearance  Medicare Act – expanded Social Security to provide medical care to people over age 65.
