Lyrics to ‘Viva la Vida’.

LYRICS I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listened as the crowd would sing Now the old king is dead long live the king One minute I held the key. Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

LYRICS I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain Once you'd gone there was never Never an honest word And that was when I ruled the world It was a wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn't believe what I'd become Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh who would ever want to be king?

LYRICS I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know St Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world Hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know St Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world.

Why ‘Viva la Vida’ Represents King Louis and his life.

VERSE 1 I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own. “I used to rule the world”: Louis XVI ruled France, which was his world. “ Sweep the streets I used to own”: King Louis eventually Lost his ‘Kingdom’ to the Revolutionaries.

VERSE 2 I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listened as the crowd would sing Now the old king is dead long live the king. “ Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes”: Louis had a lot of enemies, mostly countries and had troops face them, but eventually he had to face them. “ Listened as the crowd would sing, now the old king is dead, long live the king.”: When Louis was executed, people shouted ‘Vive la Republique’.

VERSE 3 One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand. “One minute I held the key, next the walls were closed on me”: King Louis had all the power, and all of a sudden was stripped of it.

CHORUS I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain Once you'd gone there was never Never an honest word And that was when I ruled the world. “ My missionaries in a foreign field”: Louis had troops fight for him in foreign countries. “Never an honest word”: When Louis ruled, there really was never an honest word, as he lied to people and betrayed them, including the people of his country.

VERSE 4 ( This verse represents his execution) It was a wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn't believe what I'd become Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh who would ever want to be king? “Shattered windows and the sound of drums”: Soldiers played drums at his execution. “People couldn’t believe what I’d become”: The people were disappointed of their King. “Revolutionaries wait, for my head on a silver plate.”: ‘Revolutionaries’ were literally calling for his blood, and he was executed by the Guillotine “Just a puppet on a lonely string, Oh who would ever want to be King?”: Represents that he felt that he really didn’t have any real power, literally a puppet of sorts, and also represents his ‘suffering’ as King.

CHORUS(ES) I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know St Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world Hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know St Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world (Same as other chorus, but with one modification) “I know St. Peter won’t call my name”: A Saint won’t call his name because he was a bad person.
