2 Vital to Instruction and Intervention From the content-area Reference Guides for the Periodic Assessments: Multiple assessment opportunities are a vital component of an effective, well-balanced instructional program and support teachers’ ability to plan effectively, monitor student progress in standards-based instruction, and determine the efficacy of instruction and intervention matched to student need.

3 Vital to Instruction and Intervention A Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtI 2 ) framework embraces the use of assessments to monitor student progress in standards-based instruction and intervention.

4 LAUSD Assessment Center THREE PORTALS  Periodic Assessments  Progress Monitoring Assessments  Diagnostic Assessments  AFTER SIGN-ON – Users will select the appropriate Portal to access the assessment sought

6 Portal 1: Periodic Assessments Assessments continue at all current grade levels/courses in the program Addition of History/Social Science Grade 11 (U.S. History) as an optional feature, available online

7 Also contained under the Periodic Assessment portal: End-of-Course Examination for Algebra Addition of a pilot program for Elementary English/Language Arts Periodic Assessments, Grades Two through Five, aligned with standards. Portal 1: Periodic Assessments

8 More on Periodic Assessments Assessments reviewed and revised as necessary to predict student achievement on California Standards Test (starting with Periodic Assessments 2 and 3 for 2010-2011). Data aggregated at school, local district, and central levels. Results online within 24-48 hours of school mail pick-up. Performance and Participation continually updated.

9 Portal 2: Progress-Monitoring Assessments For courses with Periodic Assessments Available and print-ready online Brief (10 items maximum) Tied to one specific standard, or even to one important standard element Teachers choose from pre-formatted assessments or “create your own assessment” using an Item Bank of California standards-based items Administrators can also create and assign these Progress- Monitoring Assessments

13 More on Progress Monitoring Assessments For Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 Schools will receive support for the use of Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) A minimum of: 20/20/20 in Kindergarten and Grade 1 Grade 2 an entry level assessment

14 Portal 3: Diagnostic Assessments  Diagnostics provide critical data for determining instruction and intervention  Current Diagnostics include: Mathematics at 5 th and 8 th CAHSEE Diagnostic for all 9 th and 10 th graders

17 Scoring Options Central Scanning for Periodic Assessments continues Online Scoring option continues; available for all assessments Teachers may use generics for Progress- Monitoring for Central Scanning (see the Reference Guide) Online administration/scoring is possible – details forthcoming.

18 Tier 1 All Students Periodic Assessments Standards-Based Item Bank Tests K-2: DIBELS Benchmark Tier 2 Some Students Tier 1 Assessments + Grades 4 – 10: Intervention and ELD/ESL Progress Monitoring K-2: DIBELS Progress Monitoring Tier 3 Few Students Tier 1 Assessments + Tier 2 Assessments with more intensity and frequency Or other Diagnostic Assessments as needed.
