What is body mechanics? Body mechanics is the way the parts of the body work together when person moves. Good body mechanics is the correct positioning of the body for a given task, such as lifting a heavy object. Following the rules of good body mechanics helps save energy and prevents injury and muscle strain.( And keeps your pay check coming) Alignment (comes from word “line”)is proper positioning of the parts of the body the way it is symmetrical and properly supported.

Safe use of a wheelchair When using an elevator, turn the chair around, so the resident faces the door in the elevator

Make sure patient’s hips are at the very back of the chair to prevent sliding forward and fall

Geriatric (reclining) chair Is used for patients who are unable to maintain sitting position to avoid staying in bed all day
