7. The Spread of Christianity Apostles –Leaders in the Christian community spread its teachings to other areas of the Roman empire. Gospels –Apostles’ teachings – oral tradition, then written between 40 and 100 A.D. –Paul Major apostle who brought the message to non-Jews as well.

8. Christianity and the Romans At first, the Romans paid little attention to the Christians. When the Christians refused to worship the Roman gods, the Roman government viewed them as traitors! Christian Persecution –(Began with Nero around 54 A.D.) –Christians were persecuted for not worshipping the Roman state gods.
