2  Now that the weather is a lot colder please send in hats, gloves and scarves. Lots of our learning still takes place outside.  P.E is on Thursdays. Socks for girls who wear tights. All items clearly labelled.  Please keep the plastic folder in your child’s bag and send into school each day.  Reading books will be changed on Mondays but should be in school each day for extra reading if necessary. Please add comments.  ‘Things to do at Home’ books are sent home on a Friday and need to be returned by the following Wednesday.  Snack money needs to be paid on a Monday morning. If it isn’t we will no longer accept payment later in the week.

3  Thurs 4 th Feb- Messy Church.  Wed 10 th Feb- Ash Wednesday Service in Church 10:30am.  Fri 4 th Mar- Trip to Jodrell Bank.

4  Listening and understanding group.  Supporting pencil control and fine motor development.  Further support for phonics, reading and writing.  A 3 rd Letters and Sounds group.

5 Mrs Davies Group  Working on orally blending and segmenting.  Slowly being introduced to the letters that sounds make.  Starting to use these letters to read words.  Starting to use these letters to spell words. E.g. sat, tap, tin.

6  Learning the sounds that each letter makes.  Using these to read 3 letter words e.g. mud.  Using these to spell 3 letter words e.g. dog.  Beginning to write the letters that represent these sounds and write simple words.  Recognise the tricky words for reading- I, no, go, to and the.

7 Mrs Andrew’s Group  Know all the letter sounds for reading.  Are using these very well when reading phonically decodable texts.  If words repeat in the text- can they begin to recognise them rather than sounding out each time- especially common words such as and, dad it, on.  Learning a wider range of tricky words for reading e.g. he, she, we, was.  Spelling tricky words for writing e.g. I, the and to.  Starting to learn digraphs- where 2 letters make 1 sound e.g. ch, sh, ai, ee.  Use these digraphs when reading and writing.

8  Encourage the use of attractive writing tools- Character pencils, pads, pencil cases, notebooks.  Model writing to the children- show them that writing has a purpose in life- cards, notes, shopping lists, letters.  Get your children to help you to write things down.  Be very positive- praise their contribution.  When supporting children to write ask them to say their idea and then listen for the sounds in the words. Then ask them to attempt to write the letters that make that sound.

10 Orbit  If you haven’t already registered please ask for a form. It allows you to see the observations that we make of the children at school.  It is a great way for you to know exactly what we are doing with the children in school and can give you ideas of activities to work on at home.  If you are already registered don't forget you can add an observation from home. Wow Moment!  These are a way of you communicating your child’s learning with us. We will add some into your child’s bag. Please send them in when your child has done something amazing at home e.g. got dressed by themselves, written a birthday card, played a football match.
