1 Instructions for using this template Delete this slide when you have completed your edits. Make a copy of this tutorial and use the copy to do your edits –Open the File menu and select Save As –Rename the PowerPoint –Click Save APPLY YOUR INSTITUTION’S BRANDING TO THIS TUTORIAL MANUALLY Remove the temporary banner from each slide and replace it with your library’s banner or your library’s logo. –Banner: suggested size is 1” x 8.75.” Position: horizontal =.65” vertical =.20” –Logo: suggested size is 1” in height. Position: horizontal =.65” vertical =.20” –To insert an image, select the Insert menu > Picture > From File, and then select your image. –After you have inserted your image, right click the image and select Format Picture. Use the Position tab to move the image to the position you want. You may use the Size tab to alter the image size. –Once you have the banner or logo the way you want it, copy the image. Next remove the temporary banner from the remaining slides, and then paste in your image to each slide. GLOBALLY Apply your master template to this tutorial –Open the Format menu and select Slide Design. Images of slide templates will appear to the right. –Select the design template you want to apply to this tutorial. –PowerPoint will apply the template you selected to all the slides in this tutorial. –Some manually edit of individual slides may be needed. IMAGES AND BACKGROUND Replace image of the homepage with your library’s homepage. –Suggested size of image is 6.0” x 8.75.” Position: horizontal =.65” vertical = 1.40” –Once you have pasted the new image on the slide, right click it. Use the right click menu to select Order > Send to Back to move the new image to the bottom layer of the slide. To change the background color, right click a slide and select Background from the right click menu. –Note: If you change the background color to white, the white text on the many of the slides will not be visible. Because of this, you may first wish to change the font color to something other than white before you change the background color. SCRIPT The script for the trainer is located in the speaker notes. –Special effects begin with a click of the mouse. The bracketed numbers in the speaker notes indicates when to click the mouse.

Because each library is different, you will need to add images of your online catalog interface and/or logon procedure. You may also wish to change the images of the Interlibrary Loan interface. Libraries have the option to choose button captions for their WorldCat Local interface. Buttons on the images in this tutorial may not match what your library has. You may need to create images of your buttons to paste over those on the slides. Or, you may wish to capture your own screen images.

32 Review The detailed record shows availability of an item. Use the Request Item button to request an item owned locally. Use the Request Item via Interlibrary Loan button to request items not owned locally. Use the Check for Electronic Resources or View Item Online buttons to view articles, serials, and other electronic resources online. You may need to log on to your Library’s OPAC to request items or to view items online.
