2 Details About Our Program
SMC has three levels of ESL instruction Beginning Intermediate Advanced You select the level that is best for you Fill out the Noncredit Course Registration Form Take your completed form to Bundy, Room 112 Before orientation or during orientation. Is the Noncredit course registration form on the website or do they have to come in to get it?

3 Matriculation Process
Application Registration Appraisal Orientation Student Education Plan with Counselor Pre-test Need to determine the order of the matriculation process???? Is the application and registration the same thing? Matriculation Process or Intake Process or Steps to Enroll????

4 Level of Instruction 4 courses offered at each level
Beginning 1. Integrated Skills 2.Listening/Speaking/Pronunciation 3. Reading/Writing 4. Idioms/Prepositions/Vocabulary Intermediate Advanced 1. Integrated Skills Integrated Skills: This course includes listening, speaking, reading and writing basic English. This class meets for 6 hours a week. Listening/Speaking/Pronunciation – all levels: This course will focus on improvement od the students pronunciation and comprehension of English. This class meets 3 hours a week. Reading/Writing: This course will focus on improving students’ English vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills. This class meets 3 hours per week. Idioms/Prepositions/Vocabulary: This course will focus on learning basic English and begin engaging in simple dialogs and conversation that are applicable to a variety of real life situations. This class meets 3 hours per week.

5 Class Schedule The schedule is flexible for students
Courses are available in the morning and afternoons. We even have courses on Saturdays Check the current schedule for course offerings and times

6 Find the Current Class Schedule
Go to the SMC website home page Click on “Class Schedule” on the top portion of the page Click on “Searchable Class Schedule” Select term Select class type “Noncredit” Select ESL-noncredit Click on “Search” You can also come to the Bundy Campus and pick-up a class schedule in room 112

7 Fees & Financial Aid SMC noncredit classes are FREE!!!
You may be asked to pay for textbooks, materials, and supplies that you will need to succeed in your class.($40-$50) There is no financial aid available for noncredit courses books or supplies

8 Attendance Attendance is important for successful learning and will be taken in each class If you miss 2 consecutive classes you will be dropped The more time and energy you put into your class, the faster you will learn English

9 Changing Classes You can register anytime during the semester. As long as the class is open If your class is not the correct level, check with your instructor about which level may be more appropriate for you Go to Bundy Campus Room 112 to make any changes

10 Tutoring Bring your class assignments to work on.
Walk-in tutoring is available Please check with your instructor/counselor for dates, times and location Tutoring will help you with: Pronunciation Speaking Listening Reading Writing Idioms/Prepositions Vocabulary Integrated Skills Bring your class assignments to work on. Subject to change please check with staff

11 Grades & Transfer Credit
You will not receive a grade for noncredit courses you attend Noncredit courses do not transfer to another school, but they help prepare you to take credit college courses

12 Counseling Counselors: Claudia & Norma are available to help you select courses, define educational goals, and find the SMC services you need Location: Bundy Campus: Room 116C

13 Student Educational Plan
Academic goals List classes for: Current semester Future semesters The plan will give you an idea on how long it will take to reach your goal(s) Updates can be made See a Counselor to start your planning now! A student educational plan or SEP is the list of all courses a student needs in order to complete their goal. This list of courses can be broken into semester so that a student will know exactly what courses to register for each semester.

14 Bundy Campus On-Site Services
Bookstore – Room 101 (1st week of semester only) Computer Lab – Room 116 (10 cents per copy) Free Shuttle to Main Campus Pick-up is on the south side of the Bundy Building(for SMC students and staff)

15 Food and Drinks Are Permitted…
In the Food Court area on 1st floor In each study area on each floor Outside the building Only water in closed containers is permitted in the hallways and classrooms No food or drinks are allowed in the Computer Lab at any time No Smoking

17 Student Picture ID Card
Santa Monica College main campus Go to the “Bursar Office”, #44 on the map (near the Counseling Office), on the side of Pearl Street Take your registration form Cost $32

18 FREE Parking Parking is free, you do not need a parking decal
Avoid getting a parking ticket!! Head in parking only

Student Education Plan with Counselor Pretest Buy Text Book (If there is space in the class) Attend Class Need to determine the order of matriculation.
