2. awarded on the basis of 2 nd year grades applications accepted at the end of year 2 once marks are known (i.e. July 2016) awards of up to £7000 are made at the beginning of year 3 for the following 12 months if abroad in year 3, the money is received in fourth year up to 10 are awarded each year (in 2015, six were awarded) in practice, an overall average of 70% or above is needed to have a realistic chance of getting one of these scholarships

4. one other funding opportunity: The Barnson Bequest: supports students in vacation activities such as courses to broaden their education, courses of a cultural nature, fieldwork or other studies, either in the UK or elsewhere. Priority is given to undergraduate students of Scottish nationality and the maximum value of any award is £500.
