5. Heart towns Mending Broken Hearts is a programme of cardiac regenerative medicine – research to try and repair or replace damaged or dead heart tissue. We will be investing in world- leading stem cell research and developmental biology. We estimate that in order to reach early clinical trials in the next five years we will need to spend £50 million

People with poor blood supply to their lower limbs and vital organs Children born with some forms of simple congenital heart disease Thousands of families and carers currently coping with heart disease.

Local communities will have access to and know about our programmes including; our Heart Helpline, local Heartstart courses, BHF funded cardiac nurses, our many publications on healthy living & well being, schools & education programmes, free Heart Matters membership, Health at Work programmes and our local heart support groups.

19. Heart towns BHF & Your Community 50 year old former pub landlady, Sally Fritzel was diagnosed with heart failure fifteen years ago. She was treated with drugs and had a pacemaker fitted in 2007. Now medically retired Sally is an active member BHF Branch Torbay. She has been supported by the same BHF Heart Nurse for 11 years and couldn’t cope without that support.
