MECH473 Final Presentations Order and presentation template

Order of presentation and times Wednesday: Fort McMurray Passive House (12 minutes, need to summarize climate) Net Zero (11 minutes) Low Cost (11 minutes) (5 minutes questions after each) Friday: Beijing Passive House (12 minutes, need to summarize climate) Net Zero (11 minutes) Low Cost (11 minutes) (5 minutes questions after each) Please send all presentations to rogak@mech.ubc.ca by 9pm Tuesday evening, regardless of the presentation day.rogak@mech.ubc.ca

Template for your presentation in following slides Note that I don’t include an outline slide. You will all use the same pattern, and time is so limited, I think we can do without this. Approximate times for each part of the presentation are indicated; these are guides – you will need to decide what needs to be emphasized.

AYO Smart home: [Passive, net zero, low cost] design for [Beijing, Ft. Mac] Team # Fred Smith: envelope modification and modelling Mary Jane: mechanical system design (heat pump) Dr. Frankenstein: approximate system sizing Etc etc :

Climate summary Some concise graph that illustrates main climate variables that drive your design, possibly taken from earlier homework. Only spend about 1 minute on this, possibly a bit more if you are the first group presenting this climate

Design Standard Describe the rules of the game you are playing 1 minute

Envelope and System Design Schematic of house showing what you have added 3 minutes

Modelling There must be SOME changes to the codes or input files needed to model your new building. Describe the physical basis of any model changes you made. Feel free to add sketches and equations if it makes it easier to communicate. 1-2 minutes

Modelling results In two or 3 slides, present the key performance data that allows you to conclude whether the design is working or not. 1-2 minutes

Control strategy Explain what sensors might be needed to make your system work. Are there redundant systems to contribute to the heating or cooling? If so, how would these be balanced or prioritized? Are there storage elements (thermal, electrical, passive or active) that require special strategies? If you are interested in the IT/electrical hardware aspects of control you might discuss this, but time will be limited. 1 minute

System sizing Provide the capacities of key components and approximate physical sizes. If significant, highlight most expensive components of the system. 1 minute

Conclusions How close is your final design to meeting your design target [be honest, we are not going buy your design, we are paying for your honest device. What features of the proposed design seemed to work the best? If there are limitations/approximations in your calculations that might substantially affect your conclusions, identify these. Anything else you learned of significance could be mentioned here. ~30 seconds

Recommendations How would you improve your design if you had time to continue the design spiral? Which of the ideas developed are supportable as practical design features that AYO should consider seriously? ~30 seconds
