National Center for Statistics & Analysis June 2011 2 National Driver Register National Driver Register (NDR) is a mission critical system Database of information, provided by the States, on individuals who have been revoked, suspended, canceled or denied or who have been convicted of serious traffic-related offenses The NDR system is used by: State Driver Licensing Officials -Identify problem drivers -Check driver records during licensing decision process FAA, FRA, USCG -Check driver records for certification Commercial Transportation Employers -Check driver records in order to make hiring decisions

National Center for Statistics & Analysis June 2011 3 How the PDPS Works 1. Maryland sends an inquiry. 2. NDR searches its database and responds with the number of matches. 3b. If a match is found, NDR sends a request to Virginia to send the driver license status to Maryland. 4. Virginia sends driver license status to Maryland. PDPS 3a. If no match is found, NDR notifies the state. Process is complete.

National Center for Statistics & Analysis June 2011 4 National Driver Register Statistics 48 million pointers on the PDPS database 98 million transactions processed for State and federal users in CY 2010 78% increase in transactions from 2002 to 2010 More and More federal agencies are figuring ways to side step the access legislation. o This will be dealt with in the next round of rule makings
