LAV construction status – M. Moulson (Frascati) – Photon Veto WG – Siena – 28 August 2012 A11 transport 2 Departure for CERN 24/07 with delivery originally scheduled for 25/07 Container width ~ 3.5 m Width > 3 m = Wide Load Need police escort! Mount Blanc Tunnel shut down both directions 10 km/h in tunnel Window for tunnel transit 0:00-5:00 on 25/07 Afternoon of 24/07: Tanker truck spills acid on A5 south of Ivrea A11 reaches Mont Blanc Tunnel at 08:00, not allowed through 24 hour delay – truck parked in shade

LAV construction status – M. Moulson (Frascati) – Photon Veto WG – Siena – 28 August 2012 A11 transport 3 Many problems with ShockLog data recorders After firmware upgrade, battery life = 2 hrs No data for both A7 and A8 transports Only 1 monitored shipment with shipping container (A6) No temperature data with thermal blanket Problem resolved by using 3.6V 2600 mA LiSOCl 2 batteries Excellent thermal stability over nearly 48 hrs

LAV construction status – M. Moulson (Frascati) – Photon Veto WG – Siena – 28 August 2012 A11 transport 4 Acceleration data [g] − transverse − vertical − longitudinal Oversize load rules (> 3 m) Max speed 80 km/h Smoother transport than even for A6

LAV construction status – M. Moulson (Frascati) – Photon Veto WG – Siena – 28 August 2012 Status of A9, A10 vessels 5 Plate steel for A9 cylinder: Ordered from Outokumpu (CR) 2 plates, 9 m long, 40 mm thick, 304LN (stabilized in nitrogen) Characteristically low permeability (μ/μ 0 < 1.05) Usually very expensive (€17/kg ~ 4× cost of 304L), but highly discounted Flanges: Ordered from a foundry near Varese Forged 304L, to be solubilized after forging to obtain low μ/μ 0 Production will be monitored 200-mm nozzles: Cut from whole steel on cannon mill, can be solubilized if needed All material should be delivered by end of Sep 2012 A9 vessel delivery: late Jan/early Feb 2013 A10 vessel delivery: late Jun 2013
