What was needed for demo  DBBC: digitize/packetize telescope signal  Output on VSI, record on VSI-capable recorder (Mark5B/B+)  With two B+ recorders, 4Gbps recording possible  But only 2Gbps real-time  Fila10G: takes DBBC output and converts it to 10GE  Mark5B or VDIF  Two 10G outputs: one to Mark5C recorder, one to correlator  Harrobox: receives 4Gbps from Fila10G  splits it into 4 1Gbps chunks (partial corner turn)  streams to SFXC correlator NEXPReS P3 Review – Dwingeloo, NL - 19 September 2013 Slide: 3

5. The (tragic) Fila10G story  Autumn 2012: Onsala and Yebes order Fila10G boards  eta ~ December 2012  Jan 2013: On board X-ray testing, Ys board swapped for Nt  ~ 2 weeks until delivery  March 27: problems with boards (they do not work) (at all)  X-ray tomography planned  May 9: tests show missing connections and shorts in PCB  4 unpopulated boards available, + components  But tests needed  June 4: tests ok, but reason for problems still unclear  Aug 9: four Fila10Gs have left manufacturer  Aug 27: boards in Catania for final modifications and fixes  Then to Effelsberg for final mounting  2 weeks ago: On receives board  1 week ago: Ys receives board NEXPReS P3 Review – Dwingeloo, NL - 19 September 2013 Slide: 5

6. Desperate measures  August 2013: I start hyperventilating  But! Hartebeesthoek (South Africa) has 2 DBBCs and 2 FIla10Gs….  Very very very polite request to lend us those Fila10Gs  But installed inside DBBCs, not trivial to extract, no enclosure, power supply  Then realisation that connection to Hh is not limited to 2Gbps….  Hh on the team  Needs to fix LO setting  Needs Harrobox  Sent from Torun (Poland) to Hh  Arrived last week  Ordered optical module  But no-one knows when it will arrive  JIVE orders one in Germany, arrived last week NEXPReS P3 Review – Dwingeloo, NL - 19 September 2013 Slide: 6

7. Who needs testing?  Early 2013: everything tested that can be tested  Waiting for new firmware, hardware to arrive  Summer arrives  Still no Fila10G  No new firmware  Ef under maintenance  People go on vacation!!  End of August: new firmware!!  Only Mh available for tests  Results not encouraging  But probably caused by lack of knowledge of hardware  Last Monday: first opportunity EVER to run setup with real telescopes  At end of day: fringe Mh – Ys, 16Gbps into JIVE  End of Tuesday: reason for lack of fringes to other telescopes (probably) known NEXPReS P3 Review – Dwingeloo, NL - 19 September 2013 Slide: 7
