4 7y3’s Recipe for a great map... What is going to make a magnificent map? 1. The countries that make up South America 2. Physical features: jungle, biggest rivers, mountain ranges, lakes, seas and oceans 3. Human features: major cities, landmarks, roads networks 4. ‘The decorations!’: Wildlife, interesting facts, climate Be accurate, use capital letters where needed, include a key!

5 How good is my map? Step 10 – 12 Named most of the countries but hasn’t always used capital letters, Located 1 or 2 cities, There are few or no physical features identified. Key has not been used Locations of features are not accurately drawn Step 13 – 15 Named all of the countries and always used capital letters, Located 2 - 4 cities, Identified at least 3 physical features A key is not used or is not detailed Locations of features are accurately drawn Step 16 – 18 Located 4 – 6 cities, Identified more than 3 physical features A detailed key is used (with one of the more complex methods i.e. shading to show elevation) Everything is accurate and detailed Other information has been annotated such as wildlife, climate or interesting facts Step 19 – 21 Located 6 cities and smaller settlements and researched the population of these. Identified more than 3 physical features Used a complex key (with 2 more complex methods i.e. shading and population proportionate symbols) Included detailed further information on wildlife and climate as annotations Don’t forget your DIRT target!
