Science Fair Research 2-Page Literature Review Due November 2nd TEST GRADE
2
Collecting Information
Research should be designed to get background information about your topic, before you begin your experiment. Ask yourself questions about your topic that you would like to know more about.
3
Requirements 2-Page Literature Review (Research) with Bibliography
TEST GRADE 4 Credible Sources No wikipedia 1 can be an encyclopedia 1 other from a book or magazine
4
Where do I start? Narrow down the key words from your topic Milk
Example Topic: “ Does drinking milk help decrease spiciness better than water or Coke?” Narrow down the key words from your topic Milk Spiciness Water Coke Remember: This is a Science Experiment, so knowing that a spicy food tastes “hot” is not sufficient. We need more background information to help us with the experiment.
5
Use Question Words Why do spicy foods taste hot?
Example Topic: “ Does drinking milk help decrease spiciness better than water or Coke?” Why How Who What When Where Why do spicy foods taste hot? How does one measure spiciness? Who needs spiciness? What are the characteristics of spiciness? When does spiciness cause upset stomach? Where in the body does spiciness occur?
6
Omit Irrelevant Questions
Example Topic: “ Does drinking milk help decrease spiciness better than water or Coke?” Why do spicy foods taste hot? How does one measure spiciness? Who needs spiciness? What are the characteristics of spiciness? When does spiciness cause upset stomach? Where in the body does spiciness occur?
7
Remember: Your questions need to point back to your project topic.
Another example: Milk Example Topic: “ Does drinking milk help decrease spiciness better than water or Coke?” Why How Who What When Where Why does milk happen? How is milk made? Who needs milk? What are the properties of milk? When do cows produce milk? Where does milk get used? Remember: Your questions need to point back to your project topic.

9
Make a Research Plan
10
Science concept to research: Taste buds
Sample Research Plan Example Topic: “ Does drinking milk help decrease spiciness better than water or Coke?” Keywords: Milk Spiciness Coke Water Research Questions: Why do spicy foods taste hot? How does one measure spiciness? What are the characteristics of spicy substances? What is the composition of milk, coke and water? Science concept to research: Taste buds
