3 1917 Smith Hughes Act Where were Smith and Hughes from and who were they? – Both were Georgia Congressmen who wrote the legislation to endorse agriculture education

4 1920 Virginia was the first state to start a Future Farmers Club Henry Groseclose organized it and is known as the father of the FFA

5 1928 Future Farmers of America was established – Dues were 10 cents

6 1930 FFA Creed Adopted. Who wrote it? – E.M. Tiffany wrote it

7 1965 NFA (New Farmers of America) and FFA (Future Farmers of America) merged to become on organization (because of integration)

8 1969 Women were admitted – Today more than ¼ of the members are females

9 1988 Name changed to the National FFA Organization – This encouraged others to join FFA because it was not just for farmers anymore

10 FFA Today Dr. Larry Case, National FFA Advisor Pledge of Allegiance, FFA Salute FFA New Horizons Magazine, official magazine

11 Official Dress On your jacket, wear the highest degree, office and award. For females: official jacket, white collared shirt, black skirt, black closed toe shoes and official scarf. For males: official jacket, white collared shirt, black slacks, black shoes and official tie.

12 Colors of the FFA The colors of the FFA are National Blue and Corn Gold. Blue reminds us that the FFA is a national organization. Gold reminds us that corn is a native American crop grown in every state.

14 Kinds of FFA Membership 1. Active 2. Alumni 3. Collegiate 4. Honorary

15 Greenhand: Know motto, mission statement, salute, proper official dress and FFA Colors. Successfully say the creed and the parts of the emblem as well as their meanings. Have a plan for an SAE. Chapter: Receive Greenhand, complete 3 classes, group discussion, 4 steps to pass motion, Earn $150 or 45 hours in SAE, proficiency award. State: Receive Chapter, Earn $1200 or 500 hours in SAE, 7 activities above the chapter American: Receive State, Earn $7500 or 750 hours in SAE, significant activities above chapter and district The FFA Degrees:

16 FFA Code of Ethics FFA encourages members to make choices that improve there chances for a long, healthy life that is meaningful and productive. Respect the rights of others and their property. Be courteous, honest and fair with others. Demonstrate good sportsmanship by being modest in winning and generous in defeat. Appreciate and promote diversity in our organization.

17 FFA Mission The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
