6. 2. Skip the annual fee – You don’t want to be charged in order to build your credit. Your first credit card is the credit card you will likely have for most of your life, so the annual fee can add up. Check that your card has no annual fee.

7. 3. Pay your bill – Although your interest rate should be low, if you are thinking too much about it when getting your first card it means you plan on carrying a balance. Use your card responsibly, and don’t carry a balance unless it is necessary.
