3
Combining Fractions 1.Find the Least Common Multiple among the denominators -That is the smallest number that can be divided by all denominators in the problem 2.For each fraction, multiply the numerator and denominator by a number that will make the denominator the LCM 3.Perform the indicated operation -Keep the denominator -Add or subtract the numerators 4.Simplify, if necessary LCM = 18

5
Converting Mixed Numbers 1.Keep the denominator the same for the improper fraction 2.Find the equivalent numerator -Ignore any signs -Multiply the integer with the denominator -Add that product to the numerator 3.Simplify, if necessary, and include the sign

Examples Convert to improper fractions
7
Operations with Mixed Numbers Convert the mixed number to an improper fraction Perform the indicated operation – Remember to find an LCM for addition and subtraction – Remember that divide means to multiply by the reciprocal – Remember that multiply is done across with both the numerator and denominator
