What we aim to achieve Short Term Outcomes: Everyone is aware of, understands and supports the purpose of the hub (clubs, coaches, parents, swimmers) Coaches and swimmers engaging with the hub regularly Improved communication, sharing of knowledge and good practice between coaches. More challenging, competitive and high quality training for talented swimmers within the County (by having all the best swimmers and coaches training together regularly) Improved knowledge and preparation of swimmers (facility access, strength and conditioning, education workshops etc.)
7
Medium term Outcomes: Improved performance of swimmers Increased and sustained engagement of swimmers and coaches into the hub Improved quality of training/coaching within clubs Long Term Outcomes: County Durham to have more/most swimmers feeding into N & D Beacon Programme More County Durham Swimmers competing internationally More inward investment into swimming within the County The best County Durham Swimmers competing together as a team? What we aim to achieve
8
Progress to date… Engagement of Clubs/Coaches/Swimmers: 05 clubs engaged 16-30 swimmers engaged per monthly hub session 10-16 swimmers engaged per Junior session 05 coaches engaged – only 2 head coaches 10-16 coaches engaged on workshops Evaluation: What has worked well? lessons learned? What are the main barriers/challenges? – Lack of awareness/understanding of the hub? – Inconsistent engagement from clubs/coaches/swimmers – Limited resource to develop and grow the programme
9
Hub Programme 2014-15 Delivery Programme: When – during times when not conflicting with competitions Where – Stanley – clubs to host? What – Planned programme for the season Cost - £4.00 per session – yearly cost? Expected Commitment: Swimmers – attendance of sessions, workshops and S&C Coaches – Support the programme and swimmers
10
Addressing the challenges.. Lack of awareness/understanding of the hub (clubs, coaches, parents, swimmers): 1.Develop a new Hub Leaflet to be distributed to all clubs, coaches. 2.Promote the Hub through N & D Website/NER Website/Club Durham/Club Network. 3.Promotion the Hub via competitions? 4.Letter of invitation to go out direct to eligible swimmers (head coach to be informed before they can attend)?
11
Addressing the challenges.. Inconsistent engagement from clubs/coaches/swimmers: 1.Representative from all clubs to be invited to initial presentation/meeting about the hub 2.Presentation to be delivered at next Swimming Network Meeting 3.Commitment from all clubs to promote and support the Hub 4.Clubs to be given the opportunity to host one hub session annually
12
Addressing the challenges.. Inconsistent engagement from clubs/coaches/swimmers: 5. Review session days/times to ensure minimal conflict with club training schedules? 6. Stipulate a minimum number/% of sessions swimmers must attend each year? 7. Introduce block payment for hub sessions (i.e. £30 for 10 sessions)?
13
Addressing the challenges.. Limited resource available to develop and grow the Hub: 1.Work with key partners to seek opportunities for further investment 2.Work in partnership with DiS to access support services (i.e. workshops/S & C) 3.Increase cost to the swimmers/clubs?
