CSO’s that will be covered SC.O.6.2.1 demonstrate the interrelationships among physics, chemistry, biology, earth and environmental science, and astronomy. SC.O.6.1.2 recognize scientific knowledge is subject to modification as new scientific information challenges current explanations

What Is It? An Irregular Galaxy is a galaxy that does not have a distinct regular shape, unlike a spiral or an elliptical galaxy. They are often chaotic in appearance, with neither a nuclear bulge nor any trace of a spiral arm structure. The shape of an Irregular Galaxy is uncommon. They do not fall into any of the regular classes of the Hubble Sequence.
5
What Is The Hubble Sequence You Might Ask. * The Hubble Sequence is a morphological classification scheme for galaxies invented by Edwin Hubble in 1936.
7
Facts! *Collectively Irregular Galaxies are thought to make up about a quarter of all galaxies. *Some Irregular Galaxies were once spiral or elliptical galaxies but were deformed by disorders due to gravitational pull.
8
Why Are They So Different? *These so called “ Irregular Galaxies” do not have a lot of common features. Many of them show the result of galaxy or near-misses. Many of them show the result of galaxy collisions or near-misses. Irregular Galaxies are usually found in groups or in clusters, where the collisions and near-misses are common. Irregular Galaxies are usually found in groups or in clusters, where the collisions and near-misses are common.

One Type Of Irregular Galaxy! This is the Starburst Galaxy it is in one of the dwarf irregular galaxies!
11
Group Project You need to research the ever changing views on irregular galaxies. Understand that nothing can be proven, only supported. You can use the following sites, or ones that you find on you own, and make a prediction about irregular galaxies, that you can back up with cited information. Paper needs to have at least two sources and be two pages long.
