Introducing People Meeting new people is an essential part of life and the first step to establishing a relationship is a proper introduction Always introduce a junior person to a senior person A younger person to an older person A fellow fraternity brother to a peer A non official person to an official person PS: When you don’t know someone in a group, take the initiative to introduce yourself- make them feel welcome.

The Art of the Handshake Handshakes are the only acceptable physical contact for men & women in the business arena; you are usually judged by the quality of your handshake. A Good Handshake Keep the fingers together with the thumb up and open Slide your hand into the other person’s so that each person’s web of skin between thumb and forefinger touches the other’s Squeeze firmly Avoid giving a cold, wet handshake by keeping your drink in your left hand

The Art of Handshakes continued A proper handshake Is firm, but not bone-crushing Lasts about three seconds May be “pumped” once or twice from the elbow Is released after the shake even if the introduction continues Includes good eye contact with the other person

When a handshake is applicable Meeting someone for the first time Meeting someone you haven’t seen for awhile Greeting your host(ess) Greeting guests Saying good-bye to people at a gathering Someone extends a hand

Giving and Accepting Compliments Compliments should always be upbeat, sincere and result in a smile When you are given a compliment, never disagree with something nice that is said about you – don’t be modest or feel embarrassed – respond with a simple thank- you

Good Sportsmanship Your behaviour on the court will greatly influence the opinion people have you Need to be able to remain in control of your emotions and remain a team player Be aggressive, determined and play hard – these are admirable qualities

Proper Table Manners It is increasingly important as you advance in your career and entertaining becomes an important part in conducting business. When you are a guest at a house, look to the host to see where you are suppose to sit- take your seat once the guests of honour and all the ladies have been seated. Never tuck your napkin in your shirt at the dining table, always placed on your lap Food is always served from the left and removed from the right “Work your way in” in regards to which piece of silverware to use Never take a drink until your mouth is empty and you have wiped it with a napkin
